Educational Signage for Barfleur Twinning Association

The Barfleur Twinning Association is the local authority for the twin town Barfleur and the surrounding area. They’re a small but active group who are proud to be involved in the twinning of towns and developing friendships. Barfleur is a commune in Normandy, twinned with Lyme Regis. John Dover is Chairman of the association.

THE BRIEF

Produce new educational signage for a statue

We were contacted by John Dover, Chairman of the Barfleur Twinning Association, to produce new educational signage for a statue in Langmoor Gardens, Lyme Regis. The statue is of historical interest but didn’t have enough accompanying signage to signify its importance or even why it was there. We were asked to design, produce and install new signage to the highest possible standards. The sign needed to have anti-vandal properties and be durable enough to withstand the test of time.

THE SOLUTION

Custom built lectern informational display

With the statue being free-standing, it was decided a lectern information display would be best. A lectern is a tall stand with a sloping sign. It makes reading information easy and stands out as a point of interest. We’ve produced several lectern stands in the past for parks and tourist attractions, as well as historic sites.

We were given content for the sign by John and got to work printing it. The printed panel is made from a durable laminated acrylic. The lectern frame was custom built in-house by us from 316L stainless-steel. We powder-coated the frame in black to resist corrosion (the statue is close to the sea). The frame has anti-theft bolts and Allen key fixings, so the printed panel can be removed and replaced whenever needed.

We installed the sign onsite ourselves and also produced a black fabric cover for it, so it could be unveiled at a ceremony. The Barfleur Twinning Association is delighted with our work and John was a pleasure to work with. A top job all round.
