WHY CHOOSE A PAVEMENT SIGN DISPLAY

Essential Tips for Pavement Sign Displays

So now you have decided on your pavement sign, what about the graphics?

In this article we will discuss some essential tips for pavement sign graphic design.

Creating maximum impact is the secret of any pavement sign.  We know that you’ve a hundred and one things to tell your customers but it’ll really have to wait! Read on for more advice.

Are you introducing a new product or service? If you are, we recommend using a separate printed poster that can be easily updated or removed at a later date. Graphic designers usually follow different design guidelines for pavement signs with permanent or changeable graphics.  If you are taking on the job of designing your graphics for your pavement sign, then the following guidelines might be of some help.

POSITIONING

Where is your pavement sign going to be positioned. Is it intended to attract pedestrians or motorists? Pedestrians have more time to absorb information than a car passing at speed.  Your designer needs to know if there are going to be any blind spots. Think carefully about want you want to put in the display area. Pavement signs with an extra header panel always have a huge advantage over other types of pavement signs. This is because the extra area can be utilised to include your business name and maybe a website address leaving more space below for promotions and bullet points.

CAPTIVATE

You have only got a split second to captivate the audience so it is far better to use this space for a short phrase, a sentence or an attention grabbing graphic. This is particularly important if you are introducing a new product or service – you want it to stand out so ensure that it is large enough to be clearly visible.

LESS IS MORE

Do not over complicate the design.  The temptation may be too cram as much information onto the pavement sign as possible, but a design that is too busy will put people off. Too many bullets results in a message that won't get read, as your audience cannot take all the information in and will switch off.

We’ve printed 1000’s of pavment signs over the past 12 years and the most effective ones always have one thing in common – A stunningly sharp image covering a large proportion of the graphic area.

Finally, bullet points that are hard to read because of a background image can also be a problem. So it is best to create a clean design that has a high impact message.

MESSAGE

Concentrate on one message on your pavement sign. All you really want it to say is ‘Hello, I’m here, come in and see me.’ When they visit your business, you’ll have plenty of time to tell them why they’ve made a great choice in coming to see you.

The graphics should be designed to create maximum impact. If the audience is only going to remember one thing from your pavement sign, what is it going to be?

The best solution is to limit the pavement sign to one promotion, service or product. You can save specifications for later, perhaps with extra literature positioned nearby for those that want more information.

IMAGES

To create the most stunning professional pavement sign, you need pin-sharp graphics. Images need to be high-resolution quality. For the technically minded, images should be 300dpi @ 25% in CMYK. We will check your artwork on receipt but you do need to be made aware by your designer if any images are not to this standard and he will advise you accordingly of the risks involved in using sub-standard images.
