Beacon Education (previously West Somerset Academies) has 6 schools and 4 nurseries located in Minehead and Williton that work together to promote high academic standards, and develop the minds of its students and take pride in individuality. Working with children aged 0 to 13 years of age, they have one of the largest catchment areas in England stretching from Devon, across the top of Exmoor, and right up to the Quantock Hills.

Whilst Beacon Education reap the benefits of a large organization, they respect and nurture the unique character of each school, and work in partnership with the Diocese of Bath and Wells, the Extended Learning Academies Network, and the Moorland Federation to utilize the support a very large network provides.

THE BRIEF

Unified Branding & Cohesive Signage

Beacon Education recently underwent a rebranding using Creative's in-house Design Team to create a new branding portfolio and brand guidelines document to span both print and digital applications. You can see the range of Logo Design Packages we offer here. Once this was complete, Beacon set to work designing new signage for each school in the multi-academy trust, combining the identity of each learning environment, whilst keeping each school and nursery's unique emblem and logo. You can see from their designs that each school has retained its colour scheme, but the overarching design brief has been repeated for each location to enhance uniformity and identity.

For all the signage created here, ACM (Aluminium Composite Material) is used. It is an incredibly versatile signage option, with great qualities for long-term external usage. We offer an array of printing options for ACM to cover potential location, longevity and budget requirements. The two most popular options are a direct printed ACM panel with a 5-year warranty protective overlaminate, and used here, is a printed vinyl faced ACM panel complete with 7-year warranty protective overlaminate. We have also extended the range to include a short-term, more eco-friendly direct printed ACM panel with no overlaminate, as well as a 2-Year printed vinyl and overlaminate ACM option produced to be 100% recyclable.

Once the sizing and measurements were sent across, we set to work creating the Artwork proofs for each location for a final sign-off before going to production. Our in-house Graphic Designers are able to produce artwork from scratch, or take print-ready artwork and offer a final glance over it before it goes into production to make adjustments where needed, and also set it in the right format for our various flatbed printers.

A similar exercise was undertaken for the Acorn Multi Academy Trust based in Devon and Dorset to unify branding across its schools and associated academies with Wall and Post Mounted ACM signage and displays. You can read all about the Acorn MAT signage project here.

THE SOLUTION

Back To School 2022

This touring installation was completed in the run-up to the new school term starting in Autumn 2022. We hope all the students, teachers and staff take pleasure in their new signage updates now acting as the fresh face to their schools.
