Printed Display Panels for The Meanwood Road Project

A community on a mission - 3 neighbours and talented artists living on the busy Meanwood Road in Leeds have embarked on the project of reclaiming their street, starting with a series of information ACM panels displaying the local flora and fauna.

The Meanwood Road Project

Meanwood Road, a thoroughfare leading north out of Leeds, holds a special place in the hearts of neighbours Lizzie Coombes, Katy Hayley & Cluny Macpherson. As local artists, they see beyond its asphalt expanse to the vibrant community it houses. Commissioned as part of Leeds 2023 'My World, My City, My Neighbourhood', Lizzie, Katy & Cluny embarked on a journey of research and development within their neighbourhood.

Their project seeks to delve into the essence of Meanwood Road and the surrounding area, exploring its identity, community, wellbeing, and sense of belonging. Despite its role as a commuter route, Meanwood Road is more than just a conduit; it is a street teeming with life and stories waiting to be told.

They aimed to turn Meanwood Road into a vibrant community street—a place where people live, work, and thrive. Central to their vision are six large printed ACM (Aluminium Composite Material) panels, each displaying seasonal flora and fauna information.

Joining The Journey - Creating The ACM Panels

As a core focal point for the community to see are six stunning ACM (Aluminum Composite Material) panels. These panels serve as not just artistic installations but as windows into the natural wonders that surround Meanwood Road throughout the seasons.

Each panel is a meticulously crafted masterpiece, blending photography and artwork to showcase the seasonal flora and fauna that grace the neighbourhood. From the vibrant hues of spring blooms to the crisp beauty of winter frost, these panels capture the ever-changing tapestry of nature with stunning clarity in their high-resolution print.

Lizzie, Katy, and Cluny poured their artistic talents into each panel, infusing them with a sense of wonder and reverence for the natural world.

But these panels are more than just aesthetic enhancements to the roadside. They serve a deeper purpose, acting as educational tools and conversation starters within the community. Each panel is adorned with information about the local flora and fauna, inviting viewers to learn more about the rich biodiversity that thrives around them.

As residents and visitors alike stroll along Meanwood Road, they are greeted not just by asphalt and traffic but by a celebration of nature's beauty. These ACM panels are a testament to the power of art to transform spaces, to inspire curiosity, and to foster a deeper connection to the world around us.

With each passing season, these panels will continue to tell the story of Meanwood Road, inviting all who encounter them to pause, reflect, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds them.

Creating A Community Space

Their project is not a solitary endeavor but a collaborative effort involving the entire community. Together, they aim to capture the spirit of Meanwood Road and its community, transforming it into a thriving street where community, wellbeing, and belonging flourish.

Each design was high-resolution printed onto a high-tack self-adhesive vinyl which has then been finished with an external-grade anti-graffiti laminate which repels oil, paint and sprays, also making them weather-proof, UV-resistant and anti-fade for up to 7 years. Each design is then expertly applied to an ACM panel and drill holes created for easy installation.
