Business Cards at Networking Events

Yesterday I went to a networking event and came home with 60 business cards.

I have them in front of me now. It is interesting to observe the cards that work really well - those that strongly and successfully re-enforce the brand image and message of the companies I met; there are also some useful lessons worth learning from those that don't quite cut the mustard.

If you are thinking of taking advantage of our fabulous FEBRUARY HALF PRICE print offer and re-vamping business cards, here are some things to bear in mind.

1.     Keep it simple - don't overload your card with masses of information - less is more!

2.     Does your logo work well on across all media? Something that is complicated and very detailed, that might look great 10ft high on the front of your building may not translate so well reduced to a standard size business card.

3.     Strong background colour work - choose your colour with care

4.     Do not overload your card with colours - stick to 2 to three colours for your fonts and back grounds (if you are images it is of course a different story)

5.     If you are printing double-sided make sure that both sides are working together. I am looking at a card now that has the most stunning image on one side, but the typography and layout on the reverse bares no resemblance to it at all.

6.     If you are using folded cards, make sure that you have a good reason for doing so, and make sure your layout makes the most of shape of your card

7.     Single-sided white background matt cards, if not laid out well, can end up looking like something printed online or a card machine at a tube station  - which may not be the image you are trying to convey.

8.     Embossing can work very well, but consider your paper quality, and make sure the effect works well on the reverse - if you are having copy on it.

9.     If you are having a space for people to write their ‘appointment times' on the reverse of your card, make sure the paper finish you chose is easy to write on with most types of pens.

10. Always, always have business cards that you are absolutely proud to hand out.
