Bespoke Wooden Signage for The River Cottage Stores

THE CLIENT

The River Cottage Kitchen & Deli is set in the wonderful Abbey Mill Gardens near the city centre. There are three River Cottage Kitchens across the South West, in Axminster, Bristol and the most recent addition of Winchester.

THE BRIEF

We've been fortunate enough to work with the well-renowned River Cottage on various projects over the past 10 years. From the main signage at their HQ in Axminster to recently updating the stand-off lettering at their Axminster canteen, we've got a fantastic understanding of their brand and the sort of things they look for in a project. This time we were tasked with updating the external signage at the stores.

THE SOLUTION

River Cottage specified the signage should be made from British sourced oak, in line with Winchester Council planning requirements. We were already very familiar with the River Cottage brand guidelines and the sort of styles and scope they would prefer. The designs were supplied by the client, before being made in to router cut files by our design team.

The aim was to create a welcoming, natural feel to the wooden signs around the premises. After sourcing the kiln-dried Oak, the pieces were routed, painted with waterproof paint and oiled to wonderful effect.

In addition to the wooden signs, we supplied and manufactured a custom made LED lightbox in line with planning specifications. The matt laminated vinyl used was a 'block out' vinyl, meaning it holds it's colour so the lighting doesn't change.

The signs were then put together in-house in Axminster, before being transported to Winchester and installed on-site by the Creative team.

The result? A smart range of bespoke signs that reflect the River Cottage branding and help guide customers around the premises.
