THE BRIEF

Design and produce concept graphics for a Mitsubishi L200

We were recently contacted by Sentinel Ops, a Trading Style of OneCo who were looking for a design partner who could produce vinyl graphics for a concept vehicle that would be used in airport operations, specifically to patrol airport runways. The vehicle in question was a new Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian with hard top. We were contracted to design graphics for the vehicle, print them and install them in time for Farnborough Airshow 2018.

We’ve lots of experience designing vehicle graphics for pick-ups having worked on numerous vehicles in the class. This gave Sentinel confidence to use our services and we were delighted to be given the opportunity.

THE SOLUTION

We met with Sentinel Ops to discuss their needs and share ideas. It became clear they wanted durable, eye-catching yet purposeful graphics. We went away from the meeting with a pretty clear vision and a few material ideas, which were picked by the client after a demonstration. We were asked to design everything from scratch.

Our in-house design team produced a few proofs for the L200, using digitally created 2D stencils to show exactly how the graphics would look. Sentinel Ops were extremely happy with the results and signed off the design following a few alterations.

Printing began the day after. For this application, MD5A vinyl was chosen. This is one of the best medias on the market for vehicle graphics and it comes with a 7-year guarantee. The colours used were Black Gloss M7-110, Bright Yellow M7-136 and Cherry Red M7-143. The vinyl was printed on our digital printer and plotter in full colour (8-10 colour inks) at 2880dpi, which is the highest photographic quality.

The L200 pick-up was delivered to us the following week. It was delivered clean and given a final prep before our experienced team got to work installing the graphics. The graphics were installed within a working day, well in time for Farnborough Airshow 2018. Our client is delighted with the work and the vehicle speaks for itself - it’s stunning!
