Weston General Hospital, an NHS Trust, serves over 200,000 people local to the area of Weston-super-Mare. Established in 1991, this was one of the very first NHS Trust hospitals created following the NHS and Community Care Act 1990. They provide acute health services and work closely with clinical networks to deliver a wide range of patient care.

One of the Trust’s ongoing educational drives surrounds sepsis, septicaemia and blood poisoning. These are life-threatening conditions and especially in children under five and in the elderly. There are around 123,000 reported cases of sepsis a year in England.

THE BRIEF

Print informational ‘Sepsis’ vinyl for 6 lifts over 3 floors

We were contacted by the Weston Area Health NHS Trust to assist with a new informational display about Sepsis. The Trust wanted to deliver important information to patients and other hospital users about Sepsis to raise awareness. It was decided internally that the best place for this information was on lift doors, since these are high-use areas.

Our brief was to print the vinyl to an exact specification as specified by the hospital Head of Estates Department. In total, there were 6 lifts that needed vinyl over 3 floors. We were also contracted to install the lift wrap vinyl professionally.

THE SOLUTION

Close liaison, expert printing and professional installation

We liaised with the hospital’s Lead Nurse Deteriorating Patient and Sepsis CQUIN, the hospital Head of Estates Department and the local Health and Safety Manager to make sure all designs were final and signed off for printing and installation. Once this was established, printing began at our Axminster unit shortly afterwards.

A high-quality 3M vinyl was chosen because this sticks to aluminium extremely well. The printed lift door wrap took around a full day’s time, because the letters had to be aligned perfectly to ensure it fitted the lift door perfectly. The finished prints were of a very high quality. We installed all vinyl onsite within a day, ensuring minimal disruption for patients.
