Successful Exhibiting
Share Our Blessings!
23 February 2011
This year we are celebrating our 12th year at the CRE. The event is a firm fixture on our calendar, and each year at about this time we start making preparations; we start thinking about how we can contribute to the success of the event. We start looking forward to catching up with regular attendees who have, over the years, become valued friends. And we get excited about the prospect of meeting and connecting with newcomers to the event. For us, being part of a bustling and vital market place is by no means the only reason we love being part of the CRE.
Over the past year, like most businesses, we have had cause to pay a great deal of attention to the impact of the current economic conditions - as well as to reflect upon its causes. And in so many ways it has been a gift - an opportunity to take stock evaluate our goals, to have a good hard think about what we really value, what we risk, and how we operate as a business.
My sincere belief is that it is possible to trade ethically and responsibly; it is possible to market ones products and services without resorting to manipulation or exploitation, it is possible to run a successful and profitable business without being motivated by greed, excess and self-interest. But it does require taking responsibility, being aware and engaging in regular self-examination, on a personal and professional level. And it demands that we be creative: in the most expansive, ambitious and spiritual sense of the word. Bringing to the market place a spirit of commerce that is about an exchange of the fruits of our labour, of our individual and particular gifts, the results of our interests, skills, enthusiasms, expertise and endeavour. Sharing, if you like, our God given blessings that have been translated into products, services, ideas, and so on. Rather than perpetuating an economy driven by fear, mistrust and lack of faith.
We are, always, our greatest blessing to one another: in life, in art, in love, at work, at home and most crucially, in the market place - through the realities we are responsible for creating in all these areas.
All the best,
Mark Shurey
